How to teach writing in kindergarten
Check out our other favorite anchor charts to teach writing. At the start of the year a mini-lesson could be something as simple as where to get more paper when you run out of it. In my classroom, the writing center is part of our daily literacy centers rotations. Students should be encouraged to learn words they frequently misspell, as well as words they wish to include in their writing. Draw the stoplight first and then invite students to help come up with different words. Have students plan their work with a partner before they begin. Teachers should make sure they do not release responsibility to students too early. Collaboration also can take the form of collaborative writing, whereby students jointly develop a single text. They can tell a story when you give them a stack of paper, extending their idea over several pages. Create an example binder. Each recommendation includes implementation steps and solutions for common roadblocks. Students also can identify opportunities to apply strategies in different content areas. Where will students sit?

Writing workshop can help foster student independence and a love of writing — not to mention that it helps kids learn to write well! I keep a bin of paper blank paper at first, then some with lines as the year went on, and eventually little stapled booklets in a central spot in the classroom.
All of these practices are aimed at achieving a single goal: enabling students to use writing flexibly and effectively to help them learn and communicate their ideas.
I use a timer and gradually increase that amount of time by about a minute a day you can also graph it so students can see it, if you like.
